Wednesbury, in Sandwell at the heart of the Black Country, has Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the High Bullen, Market Place and Trouse Lane, inter-war semis in Friar Park and Woods Estate, and post-war housing towards Golf Links Estate, Kings Hill and Moxley. Many of these houses have pebble-dash, spar dash or cement render that’s cracked, stained or blown. RCR Connections Ltd is a rendering and plastering company based in Solihull, and we render homes across Wednesbury, Darlaston, Moxley, Friar Park and Tipton.
Render systems we use
- Through-coloured render (K-Rend, monocouche): colour runs through, so no painting is needed.
- Silicone render: thin, flexible and water-repellent.
- Sand and cement render: traditional, hard-wearing, normally painted.
- Insulated render (EWI): insulation boards with a render finish to cut heat loss.
Black Country terraces
Wednesbury’s older terraces are mostly solid brick. Hard cement render on them often cracks at the joints and around bay windows. Once it’s loose, rain gets behind and the problem spreads. We tap-test the whole elevation. Sound sections can sometimes take a new system after preparation; hollow areas have to come off first. Removal is dusty, so we protect windows and ask you to warn neighbours.
Insulated render on solid walls
Solid-walled terraces lose heat quickly. External wall insulation finished with render can make a clear difference in comfort. It adds thickness, so window sills, downpipes and meters may need extending or moving. Walls must be sound and dry before insulating.
Post-war pebble-dash
On Friar Park, Golf Links and similar estates, pebble-dash is common. Where it’s still bonded it can sometimes be overcoated; where it’s hollow it needs stripping. We’ll tell you which after a survey.
Choosing a colour
Off-whites, creams and mid greys suit Black Country brick and slate well and hide urban dirt better than brilliant white. If you’re mid-terrace, think about how the finish will look next to your neighbours. Sample cards help.
How a rendering job works
- Photos first. WhatsApp pictures of the walls to 07453 614095.
- Survey and preparation. We check cracks, damp and hollow render, then repair and prime.
- Protection and scaffold. Windows, doors and paths are masked, with scaffold where needed.
- Application. Beads, base coat and mesh where needed, then the finish coat.
- Clean-up and walk-round.
Planning and weather
Wednesbury is covered by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. Re-rendering is usually permitted development, but conservation areas and listed buildings are different. Render needs dry weather above about 5°C while it cures.
Plastering inside too
We also skim, re-plaster, board and repair ceilings. See plastering in West Bromwich and Dudley.
Areas we cover
We cover Wednesbury town, Friar Park, Woods Estate, Kings Hill, Moxley, Darlaston, Wood Green and nearby Tipton and Great Bridge.
