If the outside of your house looks tired, stained or cracked, new render can change how the whole property looks. It also protects the walls from the weather. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull. We render houses, extensions, garden walls and small commercial buildings across the borough, from Shirley and Olton to Knowle, Dorridge, Hampton-in-Arden and Chelmsley Wood.
Render systems we use
Every wall is different, so we recommend a system that suits the substrate, the exposure and your budget:
- Through-coloured render (K-Rend, monocouche): the colour runs all the way through, so it never needs painting. A popular choice for a clean, modern finish.
- Silicone render: a thin-coat, flexible finish that repels water and helps the wall keep itself cleaner. Good on exposed elevations and over insulation boards.
- Sand and cement render: the traditional option. It’s hard-wearing and economical, and it’s normally painted with masonry paint once cured.
- Insulated render (EWI): render applied over insulation boards to improve thermal performance and give a decorative finish.
How a rendering job works
- Quote from photos. Send pictures or a short video of the walls by WhatsApp to 07453 614095. We’ll give you a guide price and arrange a visit if needed.
- Survey and preparation. We check for loose or hollow old render, damp issues and cracks. Any defective render is hacked off and the surface is cleaned, repaired and primed. Good preparation is the main thing that decides how long render lasts.
- Protection and scaffold. Windows, doors, paths and plants are masked and covered. Where scaffold is needed, it’s arranged before work starts.
- Application. Beads go on at corners, window reveals and the base, then the base coat and mesh where the system needs it, then the finish coat, all applied to the manufacturer’s guidance.
- Clean-up and handover. We take the masking off, clear the site and walk round the job with you.
Common questions from Solihull homeowners
Can you render over existing render? Sometimes. If the old render is sound and well bonded, a suitable system can go over it. If it’s hollow or cracked, it needs removing first. We’ll tell you honestly which applies.
What’s the best time of year? Render needs dry weather and temperatures above about 5°C while it cures, so spring to autumn is ideal. We plan around forecasts so we don’t rush a job.
Do I need planning permission? Re-rendering usually counts as permitted development, but conservation areas and listed buildings have different rules. Check with Solihull Council if you’re unsure.
What colour should I choose? Through-coloured renders come in a wide range of shades. We can show you sample cards before you decide.
