Droitwich Spa is a mid-Worcestershire town known for its brine baths and a mix of historic buildings around the High Street and St Andrew’s, inter-war and post-war housing in Chawson, Westlands and The Copcuts, and large modern estates at Copcut Rise, Pulley Lane and towards Fernhill Heath. Many homes here have pebble-dash, spar dash or painted render that has cracked or stained. Render systems we use
- Through-coloured render (K-Rend, monocouche): colour through the coat, so no painting is needed.
- Silicone render: flexible and water-repellent, stays cleaner longer.
- Sand and cement render: traditional and hard-wearing, normally painted.
- Insulated render (EWI): insulation boards finished with render to cut heat loss.
Post-war pebble-dash
A lot of Droitwich’s 1950s–70s houses were finished in pebble-dash or spar dash. Over time it cracks and comes away, letting water in. We tap-test the walls. If the finish is sound it can sometimes be covered with a suitable system after preparation; if it’s hollow or loose it needs removing first. That work is dusty and noisy, so we protect windows and ask you to warn neighbours.
Salt town and older walls
Droitwich’s history as a salt town means some older solid-walled buildings need careful treatment. Hard cement finishes on soft brick can trap moisture. We’ll check the substrate and recommend a system that suits it, and be honest if a specialist lime job is a better fit than a modern render.
Choosing a colour
Creams, soft stone shades and light greys suit Droitwich’s brick and roof tiles well and look cleaner for longer than bright white. We can bring sample cards to hold against your house.
How a rendering job works
- Photos first. WhatsApp pictures of the walls to 07453 614095.
- Survey and preparation. Cracks, damp and hollow areas are checked, then repaired and primed.
- Protection and scaffold. Windows, doors and paths are masked; scaffold goes up where needed.
- Application. Beads, base coat and mesh where required, then the finish coat.
- Clean-up and walk-round.
Planning and weather
Droitwich is covered by Wychavon District Council. Re-rendering is usually permitted development, but conservation areas around the town centre and listed buildings are different. Check first if you’re unsure. Render needs dry weather above about 5°C to cure, so spring to autumn is ideal.
