Bromsgrove has a wide mix of houses: Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the town centre and Stourbridge Road, 1930s and post-war semis in Sidemoor, Charford and Aston Fields, and newer developments at Norton, Lickey End and Whitford Vale. Out towards the Lickey Hills, Barnt Green, Catshill, Hagley and Blackwell there are many larger detached homes, often with render that’s cracked or stained after years of exposure. RCR Connections Ltd is a Solihull-based rendering and plastering company covering Bromsgrove and its villages.

Render systems

Exposed walls and older homes

Houses on higher ground near the Lickey Hills take more weather, so a flexible, water-repellent finish such as silicone render can be a good choice. On older solid-walled homes, we’ll check for damp before recommending anything, because render shouldn’t trap moisture in the wall.

How a job works

  1. WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 for a guide price.
  2. Survey for cracks, hollow render and damp.
  3. Masking, protection and scaffold.
  4. Beads, base coat, mesh and finish coat to the manufacturer’s guidance.
  5. Clean-up and walk-round.

Planning and conservation

Bromsgrove town centre and several villages, including parts of Hagley and Barnt Green, have conservation areas. Bromsgrove District Council handles planning. Re-rendering is usually permitted development, but check first if you’re in a conservation area or the house is listed.

Plastering inside too

We also skim, re-plaster, board and repair ceilings. See plastering in Birmingham and Coventry for how our plastering jobs work.

Areas of Bromsgrove we cover

We cover the town itself, including Sidemoor, Charford, Aston Fields, Rigby Hall, Lickey End, Norton, Whitford Vale and Finstall. We also work across the district, including Barnt Green, Blackwell, Catshill, Marlbrook, Rubery, Hagley, Wythall, Hollywood, Alvechurch, Belbroughton and Stoke Prior.

Choosing a colour

Through-coloured renders such as K-Rend and other monocouche systems come in a wide range of shades, from bright whites to creams, greys and earthy tones. Pure white shows dirt and algae more quickly, especially on north-facing walls or under trees, which is common in the leafier parts of Barnt Green and Blackwell. Off-whites and light greys tend to look cleaner for longer. In conservation areas, a traditional off-white or cream is usually the safer choice. We can bring sample cards so you can see the shades against your roof, windows and neighbouring houses.

Render and damp

Cracks in old render let rain in behind it, where it can’t dry out. This often shows up as damp patches inside, or render bulging and coming away. Replacing cracked render is usually more effective than patching it. Before re-rendering, we check that gutters, downpipes and window sills are working properly and that the render will finish above ground level with a bellcast bead, so water runs off rather than soaking into the base of the wall.

Weather and timing

Render needs dry weather, temperatures above about 5°C, and no frost while curing.
