1960s and 70s housing
Chelmsley Wood’s original stock often has plasterboard and skim that is now fifty or sixty years old. Ceilings crack along board joints, and walls get damaged from furniture, leaks or old fittings. A skim or over-board gives a clean, paint-ready surface. Many homes still have textured ceilings; Artex from before 2000 can contain asbestos, so have it tested before anyone sands or scrapes it.

Allow a few days for a skim to dry. Ventilate the room and use a mist coat of watered-down contract matt first.
