Kenilworth mixes old and new. Around the castle and Old Town on High Street and Castle Hill there are period cottages and Georgian buildings, while Whitemoor, Thickthorn, Knowle Hill and the Crackley area are mostly post-war and modern estates. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and Kenilworth is a short drive down the A452. We also cover nearby Burton Green, Leek Wootton and Balsall Common.

Plastering services in Kenilworth

Older properties in the Old Town

Kenilworth has several conservation areas, including the Old Town and around Abbey Fields, managed by Warwick District Council. Older cottages here are often solid-walled and may need breathable finishes. We’ll look at the walls first and tell you honestly what’s suitable. For external changes to a listed or conservation-area property, speak to Warwick District Council before starting.

Modern homes and extensions

On newer estates the jobs are usually boarding and skimming extensions, garage conversions and loft rooms, or skimming over tired walls and ceilings. These are quick, tidy jobs that make a big difference before decorating.

What to expect

We cover floors and furniture, prepare surfaces properly and leave the room swept. Fresh plaster needs a few days to dry for a skim (longer for backing coats), and the first coat of paint should be a mist coat.

Rendering too

We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.

Areas of Kenilworth we cover

We work across the whole town, including the Old Town around Castle Green, Abbey Fields and Bridge Street; the town centre around Warwick Road and Talisman Square; and the estates at Whitemoor, Thickthorn, Knowle Hill, Crackley, Windy Arbour and Fieldgate Lane. We also take on jobs in the nearby villages of Leek Wootton, Burton Green, Honiley, Stoneleigh, Ashow and Balsall Common.

Damp and re-plastering

Some older terraced and cottage properties in Kenilworth suffer from damp. Before re-plastering, it’s important to find and fix the cause: often a high outside ground level, a blocked gutter, a leaking downpipe, or a cement render or plaster that’s trapping moisture. Plastering over damp without dealing with the cause just means it comes back. If a damp specialist has already done work and specified a particular plaster system, we follow their specification so their guarantee stays valid.

Loft conversions

Kenilworth’s 1960s and 70s houses, especially around Whitemoor and Thickthorn, are often good candidates for loft conversions. We can board and skim the new room, including sloping ceilings, knee walls and dormers. Using foil-backed or insulated plasterboard where the builder or building control specifies it helps the room stay warm.

A note on Artex

Textured ceilings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. Don’t sand or scrape them. Get them tested first. In most cases we can over-board, which leaves the Artex undisturbed.
