Wolverhampton has a lot of older housing stock: Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Whitmore Reans, Blakenhall, Penn Fields and around the city centre, large Victorian villas in Tettenhall and the Park area, and inter-war and post-war semis in Fordhouses, Bushbury, Wednesfield, Penn and Finchfield. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work across Wolverhampton, Tettenhall, Codsall and Bilston.
Plastering services
- Skimming walls and ceilings ready for decorating.
- Re-plastering after damp proofing, rewiring or when old plaster has blown.
- Ceilings: over-boarding old lath-and-plaster or Artex ceilings.
- Plasterboard for extensions, loft conversions and stud walls.
- Patch repairs that blend into the existing finish.
Older terraces and villas
Many Victorian homes in Wolverhampton have original plaster that’s blown, cracked or been patched many times. After damp treatment, walls usually need re-plastering with a suitable backing coat. Old ceilings are often best over-boarded rather than pulled down, which keeps mess down. We’ll advise what makes most sense for your house.
Conservation areas
Tettenhall Greens, the Park area and parts of the city centre are conservation areas, managed by City of Wolverhampton Council. If you’re planning external changes, check with the council first.
What to expect
We protect floors and furniture, prepare and bond surfaces properly, and leave rooms swept. A skim needs a few days to dry before a mist coat; thicker coats take longer.
Rendering in Wolverhampton
We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.
Areas of Wolverhampton we cover
We take on jobs across the city, including Tettenhall, Tettenhall Wood, Compton, Finchfield, Penn, Penn Fields, Merry Hill, Bradmore, Whitmore Reans, Blakenhall, Goldthorn Park, Fordhouses, Oxley, Bushbury, Wednesfield, Heath Town, Ettingshall and Bilston. We also cover nearby Codsall, Perton, Pattingham and Wombourne, which come under South Staffordshire Council rather than the City of Wolverhampton.
After damp-proofing
A lot of Victorian terraces in Wolverhampton have had damp-proof courses injected over the years. After injection, the old plaster on the lower part of the wall is usually removed and replaced with a salt-resistant render or plaster system, because salts left in the old plaster will keep drawing in moisture. If your damp specialist has specified a particular system, we follow it. If you’re not sure whether the damp has been dealt with, get that confirmed before re-plastering.
Rewires and central heating
Older homes often need rewiring or new heating pipework, which leaves chases cut into walls and floors lifted. We fill chases, repair damaged corners and patch around new sockets so the walls are ready for decorating. If the walls were already tired, a full skim at the same time is often worthwhile.
Landlords and letting agents
Wolverhampton has a large private rented sector. Between tenancies, we can repair damaged walls and ceilings so decorators can get in. Photos sent by WhatsApp are usually enough for us to give a guide price.
