Castle Bromwich sits on Birmingham’s eastern edge, between Erdington, Chelmsley Wood and the M6. Housing is mostly inter-war and post-war: semis and terraces around Bradford Road, Chester Road and Tangmere Drive, with older cottages near the village green and St Mary and St Margaret’s church, and newer homes towards Smith’s Wood and Water Orton. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, a short run down the A452, and we take on plastering work across Castle Bromwich, Smith’s Wood, Kingshurst and Water Orton.

Plastering services

Inter-war and post-war homes

Most Castle Bromwich houses were built from the 1930s to the 1970s. Typical jobs are over-boarding tired ceilings, skimming walls after old wallpaper or lining paper comes off, making good after a rewire, and boarding and skimming rear extensions. Textured ceilings applied before 2000 can contain asbestos — have them tested before sanding or scraping. Over-boarding seals them safely in place.

Extensions and garage conversions

Plenty of semis here have had a garage converted or a rear extension added. Once the builder has finished insulation and first-fix electrics and building control has inspected, we board and skim so the new room matches the rest of the house. If the builder has already boarded, we can just do the skim.

The village green and conservation area

The historic core around the green and church is a conservation area. Birmingham City Council handles planning. Older cottages may have solid walls and lime plaster; we’ll check what’s there and be honest if a lime specialist is a better fit.

Getting the room ready

Clear the room or move furniture to the middle, take down curtains and pictures, and have an electrician loosen sockets and switches. We bring dust sheets and floor protection.

How a job works

  1. WhatsApp photos and rough room sizes to 07453 614095.
  2. We send a guide price and visit if needed.
  3. We protect your home, plaster and tidy up.
  4. You get advice on drying and mist coats.

Drying and painting

A skim needs a few days to dry, and thicker coats longer. Keep the room ventilated and use a mist coat first so paint doesn’t peel.

Rendering

We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.
