Erdington, in north-east Birmingham, has a wide range of housing: Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the High Street, Station Road and Gravelly Hill; inter-war semis in Stockland Green, Pype Hayes and Short Heath; and post-war estates towards Castle Vale and Kingstanding. Larger Victorian villas sit on roads around Rookery Park. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work across Erdington, Stockland Green, Pype Hayes, Wylde Green, Kingstanding and Castle Vale.
Plastering services
- Skimming walls and ceilings.
- Re-plastering after damp, rewiring or when plaster has blown.
- Ceilings: over-boarding lath-and-plaster or Artex ceilings.
- Plasterboard for extensions, loft conversions and partitions.
- Patch repairs that blend in.
Older terraces
Victorian and Edwardian homes in Erdington often have original lime plaster that has been patched over many decades with different materials. The result is walls that are uneven, cracked or hollow in places. We’ll tap-test the walls and recommend either repairing the bad sections and skimming, or stripping back and starting again. Either way, you’ll get a clear explanation.
Chimney breasts and fireplaces
Many Erdington terraces have had chimney breasts removed or fireplaces blocked up. Removing a chimney breast is a structural job that needs building control approval and proper support for what’s above. Once the builder has done that, we can plaster or board the wall so it’s flat and seamless. Blocked-up fireplaces need a vent left in so the flue stays ventilated, which helps prevent damp.
Conservation areas
Erdington has conservation areas including the High Street area and around Rookery Park, managed by Birmingham City Council. If you’re changing external finishes in these areas, check with the council first.
How a job works
- WhatsApp photos and rough room sizes to 07453 614095.
- We send a guide price and arrange a visit if needed.
- Floors, stairs and furniture are protected.
- We plaster, clear up, and give you aftercare advice.
Drying and painting
A skim needs a few days to dry, and backing coats longer. Don’t force-dry with heaters. Use a mist coat first.
Rendering in Erdington
We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.
