Bentley Heath sits between Knowle, Dorridge and Widney Manor. It’s mostly residential: 1930s and post-war semis and bungalows along Widney Road and Bentley Heath Road, 1960s and 70s estates off Mill Lane and Browns Lane, and newer homes towards Widney Manor and Cheswick Green. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, a few minutes away, so Bentley Heath is local work for us. We also cover the surrounding area, including Widney Manor, Cheswick Green, Monkspath and Copt Heath.
Plastering services
- Skimming: a fresh finish coat for smooth, flat walls and ceilings.
- Re-plastering: hacking off blown plaster and replastering.
- Ceilings: over-boarding cracked or Artex ceilings.
- Plasterboard: boarding extensions, garage conversions and loft rooms.
- Patch repairs: making good after rewires, new radiators or kitchen refits.
Typical work on Bentley Heath homes
Many houses in Bentley Heath have been extended at the back or side, or have had a garage converted into a living space. That often leaves a mix of old plaster and new plasterboard, with visible joins where walls were removed. A skim over the whole area gives one even finish. Bungalows here are also common candidates for loft conversions, which we can board and skim once the builder has finished the structure.
Cracks: what’s normal and what isn’t
Fine hairline cracks in plaster are common and usually caused by small seasonal movement or the house settling. They can be filled or skimmed over. Wider cracks, cracks that keep coming back, or ones running diagonally from the corners of windows and doors can be a sign of movement in the structure. In those cases it’s worth getting a surveyor or structural engineer to look first. We’ll tell you if we think that’s needed rather than just plaster over it.
Getting the room ready
Clear as much furniture as you can, take down curtains and pictures, and have an electrician loosen sockets and switches. We bring dust sheets and protection for floors and stairs, and we leave the room swept when we’ve finished.
How a job works
- WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 with rough room sizes.
- We send a guide price and visit if needed.
- We agree what’s included and a start date.
- We plaster, clear up, and give you aftercare advice.
Drying and painting
Allow a few days for a skim to dry, longer for backing coats. Keep a window open and don’t force-dry with heaters. Use a mist coat as the first coat of paint.
Rendering too
Bentley Heath is part of Solihull Metropolitan Borough, so planning questions go to Solihull Council. We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See rendering in Solihull, our K-Rend and monocouche page, and our Knowle and Dorridge page.
Coving and finishing touches
Once a room is skimmed, coving and neat beads at external corners make the finish look sharp. We can fit plaster coving and metal or uPVC angle beads as part of the job, so corners stay crisp and are less likely to chip.
