Hampton-in-Arden is a small village between Solihull and Coventry, with a historic centre around the church of St Mary and St Bartholomew and the High Street, many Victorian estate cottages built for the Peel family, and inter-war and post-war homes along Fentham Road, Old Station Road and the roads off them. Nearby are Catherine-de-Barnes, Barston, Bickenhill and Meriden. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work in all of these.

Conservation area and older cottages

Much of the centre of Hampton-in-Arden is a conservation area, and there are a number of listed buildings. Solihull Council handles planning and listed building consent. The village’s Victorian cottages are generally solid-walled, and many were originally finished with lime plaster. Patching lime walls with modern gypsum can cause problems, because gypsum doesn’t cope well with moisture coming through solid walls. We’ll look at what’s there before quoting and tell you honestly whether the work suits a standard plastering approach or a lime specialist.

Inter-war and post-war homes

On the 1930s to 1970s houses in the village, the usual jobs are skimming tired walls, over-boarding cracked ceilings and making good after rewiring or a new kitchen. If you’re having a ceiling over-boarded, the new plasterboard is screwed through to the joists so it’s firmly fixed, then taped and skimmed.

Before we arrive

How a job works

  1. WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 with rough room sizes.
  2. We give you a guide price and arrange a visit if needed.
  3. We protect your home, plaster, and clear up.
  4. You get clear advice on drying times and mist coats.

Drying times

A skimmed wall usually needs a few days to dry, and a full re-plaster longer, depending on ventilation and the time of year. The plaster is ready when it’s an even pale colour all over. The first coat of paint should be a mist coat.

Rendering in Hampton-in-Arden

We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). In the conservation area, check with Solihull Council before changing external finishes. See rendering in Solihull and our K-Rend and monocouche page.
