Terraced houses
Nuneaton’s older terraces are mostly solid-walled. Over time, many have had damp issues, and the plaster on lower walls often ends up blown or salt-stained. Before re-plastering, the cause should be dealt with. Common causes are bridged damp-proof courses, raised path levels, leaking gutters and old cement renders. Once that’s done, the affected plaster can be removed and replaced with a suitable system. If a damp specialist has specified one, we follow it.
Mining-area movement
Parts of Nuneaton and Bedworth were mined in the past. Most houses are perfectly stable, but if you’re seeing wide cracks, cracks that keep reopening, or doors and windows that have started to stick, it’s worth having a surveyor look before you re-plaster. Drying and painting
A skim needs a few days to dry, longer for backing coats. Keep the room ventilated and use a mist coat as the first coat of paint.
