Rugby has a varied mix of housing: Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas around the town centre, Hillmorton Road, Bilton Road and near Rugby School; inter-war and post-war homes in Bilton, Hillmorton, Overslade and New Bilton; 1970s and 80s estates in Brownsover; and large new developments such as Houlton and Coton Park. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work across Rugby, Dunchurch, Clifton-upon-Dunsmore, Long Lawford and Cawston.
Plastering services
- Skimming walls and ceilings ready for decorating.
- Re-plastering after damp, rewiring or where plaster has blown.
- Ceilings: over-boarding lath-and-plaster or Artex ceilings.
- Plasterboard for extensions, loft conversions and garage conversions.
- Patch repairs that blend in.
Victorian and Edwardian homes
Rugby’s older terraces and villas often still have original lime plaster and lath-and-plaster ceilings. Over time, plaster comes away from the brickwork and ceilings crack or sag. We’ll tap-test the walls, check the ceilings, and recommend either targeted repairs and a skim, or stripping back and re-plastering. Solid walls need to breathe, so if there’s damp we’ll want the cause found first.
New-build homes in Houlton and Coton Park
Rugby has a lot of new housing. In the first few years, it’s normal for small cracks to appear along plasterboard joints, around door frames and where walls meet ceilings, as the timber and plaster dry out. Once the house has settled, these can be filled, taped and skimmed. If your home is still under a builder’s warranty, check with them first.
Conservation areas
Rugby has several conservation areas, including the town centre and the area around Rugby School, as well as in villages such as Dunchurch. Rugby Borough Council handles planning and listed building consent. Check with them before changing external finishes.
Getting the room ready
Clear the room or move furniture to the middle, take down curtains and pictures, and have an electrician loosen sockets and switches. We protect floors and stairs with dust sheets.
How a job works
- WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 with rough room sizes.
- We send a guide price and visit if needed.
- We plaster, clear up, and give aftercare advice.
Drying and painting
A skim usually needs a few days to dry, longer for thicker coats. Use a mist coat first so later coats don’t peel.
Rendering in Rugby
We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.
Villages around Rugby
We cover Dunchurch, Bilton, Hillmorton, Clifton-upon-Dunsmore, Long Lawford, Cawston, Brinklow, Wolston, Stretton-on-Dunsmore and Kilsby. Dunchurch and several other villages have older cottages in conservation areas, while places like Cawston and Houlton are mostly modern.
Loft conversions
Many 1930s semis and 1970s homes around Rugby are converted into the loft. We board and skim new loft rooms, including sloping ceilings and dormers.
