Cannock grew as a mining town on the edge of Cannock Chase, and its housing shows it: Victorian and early 20th-century terraces around the town centre, Chadsmoor and Hednesford, inter-war council semis in Bridgtown and Heath Hayes, and large post-war and modern estates in Pye Green, Rawnsley, Norton Canes and Huntington. Many houses here have pebble-dash, non-traditional construction or render that has cracked and stained. RCR Connections Ltd is a rendering and plastering company based in Solihull, and we render homes across Cannock, Hednesford, Heath Hayes, Norton Canes, Huntington and Great Wyrley.

Render systems we use

Non-traditional and solid-walled homes

Some post-war houses around Cannock were built using non-traditional methods, such as concrete panels or steel frames, rather than standard brick cavity walls. These can lose a lot of heat and often benefit from external wall insulation with a render finish. They need assessing properly first, and some types need specialist surveys for mortgage purposes. We’ll be honest if your house needs that before rendering.

Pebble-dash and failing render

We tap-test walls first. Sound render or pebble-dash can sometimes be covered with a suitable system after preparation. Hollow or cracked render needs removing. Where render meets the ground, we finish above ground level with a bellcast bead so water runs off rather than soaking into the base of the wall.

Old mine workings

Parts of the Cannock area were mined extensively. If you’re seeing wide or recurring cracks, get a surveyor’s view before rendering, because render won’t stop structural movement.

How a rendering job works

  1. Photos first. WhatsApp pictures of the walls to 07453 614095.
  2. Survey and preparation. We check cracks, damp and hollow render, then repair and prime.
  3. Protection and scaffold. Windows, doors and paths are masked, with scaffold where needed.
  4. Application. Beads, base coat and mesh where needed, then the finish coat.
  5. Clean-up and walk-round.

Planning in Cannock

Cannock Chase District Council handles planning. Re-rendering is usually permitted development, but conservation areas and listed buildings are different. Check first if you’re unsure. Render needs dry weather above about 5°C to cure.

Choosing a colour

Off-whites, creams and light greys tend to stay looking cleaner than pure white, particularly on north-facing walls and near the trees of the Chase. We can show sample cards.

Plastering inside too

We also skim, re-plaster, board and repair ceilings. See plastering in Birmingham and Coventry.
