Stratford-upon-Avon is best known for its timber-framed buildings, but most homes in and around the town are more recent: Victorian and Edwardian houses off the Alcester and Evesham Roads, inter-war and post-war homes in Shottery, Tiddington and Bishopton, and large newer estates around Bridgetown, Trinity Mead and the Shottery and Bishopton developments. Nearby villages such as Wellesbourne, Alcester, Henley-in-Arden and Snitterfield have their own mix of cottages and modern homes. RCR Connections Ltd is a Solihull-based rendering and plastering company covering Stratford and the surrounding area.
Render systems
- K-Rend / monocouche: through-coloured, low maintenance, no painting.
- Silicone render: thin, flexible and water-repellent.
- Sand and cement render: traditional, durable, normally painted.
- Insulated render (EWI): improves energy efficiency on solid-walled homes.
Conservation areas and listed buildings
Stratford town centre is a large conservation area with many listed buildings, and several surrounding villages have conservation areas too. Stratford-on-Avon District Council handles planning and listed building consent. Render colour and type can matter in these areas, so check with the council before starting. Timber-framed and very old buildings usually need lime-based specialists, and we’ll say so honestly if your home falls into that category.
Modern homes
On newer estates, rendering jobs are usually re-coating cracked or stained render, rendering extensions to match the house, or updating brick elevations with coloured render. Silicone and monocouche finishes suit these well.

- Survey: cracks, hollow render and damp checked.
- Protection and scaffold.
- Application to the manufacturer’s guidance, in suitable weather above about 5°C.
- Clean-up and walk-round.
Areas we cover around Stratford
In Stratford itself we work in Shottery, Tiddington, Bishopton, Bridgetown, Clopton, Welcombe, Trinity Mead and Old Town. We also cover the surrounding villages, including Wellesbourne, Alcester, Henley-in-Arden, Snitterfield, Wilmcote, Welford-on-Avon, Bidford-on-Avon, Ettington and Long Marston.
Choosing the right render for the building
Not every wall should get the same render. As a rough guide:
- Modern cavity-wall homes: silicone or monocouche (K-Rend) finishes work well and need little maintenance.
- Extensions: often rendered to match or contrast with the main house. We can match colour and texture where the existing finish allows.
- Older solid brick: may suit insulated render (EWI) to cut heat loss, provided the wall is dry and sound.
- Timber-framed, stone or very old buildings: usually need breathable lime-based finishes. That’s specialist work, and we’ll point you towards a lime specialist rather than use the wrong material.
Colour and character
Around Stratford, especially in conservation areas and villages such as Welford-on-Avon and Henley-in-Arden, render colour can affect the character of a street. Soft creams and off-whites tend to sit well alongside traditional buildings. In conservation areas, Stratford-on-Avon District Council may have views on colour, so check before you commit.
Weather and timing
Render needs dry weather and temperatures above about 5°C while it cures, so spring to early autumn is ideal. We plan around forecasts so the job isn’t rushed.
