Hall Green, in south Birmingham, is mostly inter-war housing: rows of 1920s and 1930s semis and terraces along the Stratford Road, Robin Hood Lane, Fox Hollies Road, Shaftmoor Lane and the roads around Sarehole Mill and the Shire Country Park. There are some Edwardian houses nearer Sparkhill and more post-war homes towards Highters Heath and Yardley Wood. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, just over the border, and we take on plastering work across Hall Green, Highters Heath, Yardley Wood, Billesley and Shirley.

Plastering services

1930s semis

Hall Green’s inter-war semis are solidly built, but after nearly a hundred years many have walls patched several times and ceilings with long cracks. A typical refurb here involves:

Loft conversions and extensions

Hall Green’s hipped-roof semis are often converted with a hip-to-gable loft extension, and many have rear kitchen extensions. We board and skim new loft rooms, including sloping ceilings and dormers, and match new walls to old ones. Use whatever board types your building control drawings specify.

Planning

Hall Green is in Birmingham, so planning and building control go to Birmingham City Council. There are a few conservation areas nearby, such as around Moseley, but most of Hall Green isn’t in one.

How a job works

  1. WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 with rough room sizes.
  2. We send a guide price and visit if needed.
  3. We protect floors, stairs and furniture.
  4. We plaster and leave the room swept.

Drying and painting

Give a skim a few days to dry, longer for thicker coats, and don’t force-dry it with heaters. Use a mist coat as the first coat of paint so later coats don’t peel.

Rendering too

We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.

Areas around Hall Green we cover

We work across Hall Green, Highters Heath, Yardley Wood, Billesley, Sparkhill, Springfield, Fox Hollies and Robin Hood, along with nearby Shirley and Solihull Lodge. Because we’re based in Solihull, this part of south Birmingham is quick for us to reach.

Removing a chimney breast

Many Hall Green semis have had chimney breasts taken out to make bedrooms bigger. That’s structural work for a builder, with building control sign-off. Once it’s supported properly, we plaster or board the wall so it’s flat. Blocked fireplaces should keep a vent so the flue doesn’t get damp.
