Acocks Green, in south-east Birmingham, has a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the village centre and Westley Road, inter-war semis along Fox Hollies Road, Shirley Road and the roads off Warwick Road, and post-war housing towards Fox Hollies and Tyseley. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, just down the Warwick Road, and we take on plastering work across Acocks Green, Fox Hollies, Tyseley, Yardley and Olton.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The older terraces near Acocks Green village are solid-walled, and many have had damp issues at some point. Before re-plastering, the cause of damp needs to be fixed. Common causes include high outside ground levels, leaking gutters and downpipes, and old cement render or plaster trapping moisture. If a damp specialist has injected a damp-proof course, we’ll follow their specified plaster system so their guarantee stays valid.
Old ceilings in these houses are often lath-and-plaster. If they’re firmly fixed, over-boarding is clean and quick. If they’re sagging, they need taking down first.
Rented property
Acocks Green has plenty of rented housing. Between tenancies, landlords often need damaged walls patched, ceilings repaired and rooms skimmed ready for decorators. Photos sent by WhatsApp are usually enough for a guide price.
Conservation area
Acocks Green has a conservation area around the village centre and Victorian streets nearby, managed by Birmingham City Council. If you’re planning changes to the outside of a house there, check with the council first.
What to expect
We lay dust sheets and protect floors, stairs and furniture. Old plaster is bagged and removed. Surfaces are prepared and bonded so the new coat grips properly, and the room is swept when we finish.
Drying and painting
A skim usually needs a few days to dry, and backing coats take longer. Keep the room ventilated, then apply a mist coat of watered-down contract matt emulsion before your main coats.
Rendering in Acocks Green
We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.
Areas around Acocks Green we cover
We cover Acocks Green village, Fox Hollies, Tyseley, Yardley, South Yardley, Hay Mills, Sparkhill and Olton. Warwick Road and the Shirley Road are easy routes in from Solihull.
Wallpaper and uneven walls
When old wallpaper comes off in these older houses, the plaster underneath is often uneven, cracked or lifting. Rather than hanging lining paper over it, a skim gives you a smooth wall that you can paint, and it lasts longer. Where plaster has come away completely, we cut out and repair those sections first.
