Henley-in-Arden is a historic market town on the A3400 between Solihull and Stratford, known for its long High Street lined with timber-framed, Georgian and Victorian buildings, and the Guildhall and church of St John the Baptist. Away from the High Street there are inter-war, post-war and newer homes on roads such as Arden Road and Stratford Road. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work in Henley-in-Arden, Wootton Wawen, Ullenhall, Tanworth-in-Arden, Beaudesert, Preston Bagot and Claverdon.

Plastering services

The High Street and listed buildings

Henley’s High Street is a conservation area and contains a large number of listed buildings, many timber-framed with wattle-and-daub or lime-plastered panels. Work on these usually needs listed building consent from Stratford-on-Avon District Council, and often needs traditional lime materials. That’s specialist work. If your property falls into this category, we’ll tell you honestly and point you towards a lime specialist rather than use the wrong materials.

Later houses in and around Henley

Victorian and inter-war homes off the High Street are often solid-walled brick and may still have lath-and-plaster ceilings. Post-war and newer houses are more straightforward, with typical jobs being skimming, over-boarding ceilings and boarding extensions. If you’re unsure which approach suits your walls, send photos and we’ll advise.

Nearby villages

Many homes in Ullenhall, Tanworth-in-Arden and Wootton Wawen are older cottages and farmhouses, often extended. A common job is plastering a modern extension so it matches the feel of the original house, or boarding and skimming a converted outbuilding.

How a job works

  1. WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 with rough room sizes.
  2. We send a guide price and visit if needed.
  3. We protect floors, stairs and furniture.
  4. We plaster, clear up and give aftercare advice.

Drying and painting

A skim usually needs a few days to dry, and backing coats longer. Keep the room ventilated, don’t force-dry with heaters, and use a mist coat as the first coat of paint.

Parking and access

Parking along the High Street can be limited. Let us know about access, parking and where we can mix when you get in touch, so the job runs smoothly.

Rendering

We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI) on suitable modern walls. See our Stratford-upon-Avon rendering page, our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.

Cracks in older homes

Fine hairline cracks are common in older houses and usually come from small seasonal movement. Wider cracks, ones that keep coming back, or diagonal cracks from window and door corners can point to structural movement. In those cases we’d suggest a surveyor looks first rather than just plastering over. Timber-framed buildings move naturally, which is another reason flexible lime finishes suit them.
