Dudley, at the heart of the Black Country, has a lot of older housing. There are Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the town centre, Kates Hill, Netherton and Eve Hill, inter-war council and private semis in Priory, Wren’s Nest and Russells Hall, and post-war and newer estates in Gornal Wood, Sedgley, Coseley and Brierley Hill. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work across Dudley, Sedgley, Gornal, Netherton, Brierley Hill and Kingswinford.

Plastering services in Dudley

Black Country terraces

Dudley’s older terraces are mostly solid brick, and many have had damp at some point. Lower walls often have blown or salt-stained plaster. The cause should be fixed before re-plastering: usually raised yards or paths bridging the damp-proof course, leaking gutters, or old cement render outside. If a damp specialist has injected a damp-proof course and specified a plaster system, we follow it so their guarantee stays valid.

Cracks and old mine workings

Parts of Dudley sit over historic limestone and coal workings. Most houses are perfectly stable, but if you’re seeing wide cracks, cracks that keep reopening, or doors and windows that have started to stick, have a surveyor look first. We’ll tell you if we think that’s needed rather than simply plastering over cracks that could come back.

Post-war homes

On 1950s to 70s houses, textured ceilings are common. Artex applied before 2000 can contain asbestos, so have it tested before anyone sands or scrapes it. Over-boarding and skimming usually leaves it sealed safely in place.

Getting the room ready

How a job works

  1. Photos first. WhatsApp pictures and rough room sizes to 07453 614095.
  2. Guide price. We reply with a guide price and visit if needed.
  3. Protection. Floors, stairs and furniture are covered.
  4. Plastering. Surfaces are prepared and bonded properly.
  5. Tidy finish. Waste is removed and you get drying and mist coat advice.

Drying and painting

A skim needs a few days to dry, and backing coats longer, especially in solid-walled houses in winter. Use a mist coat of watered-down contract matt first.

Planning and rendering

Dudley is covered by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council, which handles planning and building control. There are conservation areas including the town centre around the castle. We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our K-Rend and monocouche page, rendering in Solihull and our Halesowen rendering page.
