Victorian and Edwardian villas
The larger houses in Oldswinford and Pedmore often have high ceilings, cornicing, ceiling roses and picture rails. We protect features you want to keep and skim neatly up to them. Recreating damaged run-in-situ cornicing is specialist fibrous plaster work, and we’ll say so honestly if your job needs that. Original walls are often lime plastered, and solid brick walls need to breathe, so if there’s damp we’ll want the cause found first.
High ceilings and access
Rooms over three metres high need proper access, usually a stable platform or tower. We’ll plan for it when we quote, so the job is done safely and the finish is consistent across the whole ceiling.
Inter-war and post-war homes
On 1930s semis in Wollaston and Norton, common jobs are over-boarding cracked ceilings, skimming after old wallpaper comes off, and boarding rear extensions and loft conversions. On 1960s and 70s homes, textured ceilings are common. Have pre-2000 Artex tested for asbestos before anyone sands or scrapes it.
Conservation areas
Stourbridge has several conservation areas, including the town centre, Oldswinford, the canal at Wordsley and parts of Amblecote. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council handles planning. Check before external changes. Hagley is in Bromsgrove District.

Drying and painting
Allow a few days for a skim, longer for thicker coats. Use a mist coat of watered-down contract matt first.
