Studley is a large village just south-east of Redditch, once known for needle-making. Its housing is mostly inter-war, post-war and modern: semis and bungalows along Alcester Road and Birmingham Road, estates off Castle Road, Tanworth Lane and Gunners Lane, and newer homes on the edges of the village. There are also older cottages near the church and in Mappleborough Green and Sambourne. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work in Studley, Mappleborough Green, Sambourne, Astwood Bank, Coughton and Redditch.
Plastering services
- Skimming: a smooth new finish over walls and ceilings.
- Re-plastering: removing blown or damaged plaster.
- Ceilings: over-boarding cracked or Artexed ceilings.
- Plasterboard: extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions.
- Patch repairs: making good after rewires or kitchen fitting.
Bungalows and loft conversions
Studley has many bungalows, and quite a few are being converted into the roof or extended upwards. These projects mean boarding and skimming new rooms with sloping ceilings, dormers and knee walls, plus making good downstairs where the staircase has gone in. We can fit around your builder’s programme and plaster once insulation and first-fix electrics are signed off.
Textured ceilings
Many 1960s and 70s homes in Studley still have Artex. Textured coatings from before 2000 can contain asbestos, so have them tested before anyone sands or scrapes. Over-boarding and skimming usually leaves them safely sealed in.
Older cottages
Studley’s older cottages and those in Sambourne are mostly solid-walled and may have been lime plastered. They need breathable finishes. We’ll check what’s there and give you an honest view. Sambourne has a conservation area, and planning goes to Stratford-on-Avon District Council, even though Studley is close to Redditch.
Getting the room ready
Clear the room or move furniture to the middle, take down curtains and pictures, and have an electrician loosen sockets and switches. We bring dust sheets and protection.
How a job works
- WhatsApp photos and rough room sizes to 07453 614095.
- We send a guide price and visit if needed.
- We protect your home, plaster, and tidy up.
- You get advice on drying and mist coats.
Drying and painting
A skim needs a few days to dry, and thicker coats longer. Keep the room ventilated, avoid force-drying with heaters, and use a mist coat first.
Rendering in Studley
We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI). See our Redditch rendering page, our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.
Garage conversions and extensions
Many Studley semis have had a garage converted or a rear extension added. Once the builder has finished insulation and first-fix electrics and building control has inspected, we board and skim the walls and ceilings so the new room matches the rest of the house. If your builder has already boarded, we can just do the skim.
