Kidderminster grew as a carpet-making town, and its housing reflects that: Victorian terraces built for mill workers around the town centre, Sutton Road and Horsefair; inter-war semis in Hoobrook and Comberton; and large post-war and modern estates in Franche, Habberley, Offmore, Spennells and Birchen Coppice. Many houses here have pebble-dash, spar dash or old render that has cracked or stained. RCR Connections Ltd is a rendering and plastering company based in Solihull, and we render homes across Kidderminster, Stourport-on-Severn, Bewdley, Blakedown and Wolverley.

Render systems we use

Solid-walled Victorian terraces

Kidderminster’s older terraces mostly have solid walls with no cavity, which lose heat quickly. External wall insulation with a render finish can make a noticeable difference to comfort. It adds thickness to the wall, so window sills, downpipes, gas meters and satellite dishes may need extending or moving, which we plan for at the survey. Before insulating, the wall must be sound and dry.

Post-war estates

On the estates in Franche, Habberley and Offmore, common jobs are removing failing pebble-dash, rendering over mixed brick and cladding, and refreshing stained or cracked render. We tap-test the walls first. Sound render can sometimes be covered, and hollow render needs removing.

Weather and algae

North-facing walls and those under trees or near the River Stour and the canal can grow green algae. Silicone render resists this better than many traditional finishes, and an off-white or light grey looks cleaner for longer than pure white.

How a rendering job works

  1. Photos first. WhatsApp pictures of the walls to 07453 614095.
  2. Survey and preparation. We check for cracks, damp and hollow render, then repair and prime.
  3. Protection and scaffold. Windows, doors and paths are masked, with scaffold where needed.
  4. Application. Beads, base coat and mesh where needed, then the finish coat.
  5. Clean-up and walk-round.

Planning in Kidderminster

Kidderminster is covered by Wyre Forest District Council. Re-rendering is usually permitted development, but conservation areas, including parts of the town centre and Bewdley, and listed buildings are different. Check first if you’re unsure. Render needs dry weather above about 5°C to cure.

Plastering inside too

We also skim, re-plaster, board and repair ceilings. See plastering in Birmingham and Coventry.

Areas we cover around Kidderminster

We cover Franche, Habberley, Offmore, Comberton, Spennells, Hoobrook, Aggborough, Birchen Coppice, Foley Park and Broadwaters, along with nearby Stourport-on-Severn, Bewdley, Blakedown, Wolverley, Cookley and Hagley.

Choosing a colour

We can show sample cards against your roof and windows before you choose. Through-coloured renders come in a wide range of shades, and lighter, warmer tones tend to suit Kidderminster’s red-brick streets.
