Alcester is a small Roman market town where the rivers Arrow and Alne meet, in the west of Stratford district. Its centre around Henley Street, High Street, Church Street and Butter Street is full of timber-framed, Georgian and Victorian buildings. Around the edges there are post-war and modern homes towards Kinwarton, Arden Road and the newer developments off Allimore Lane. RCR Connections Ltd is a plastering and rendering company based in Solihull, and we take on plastering work across Alcester, Arrow, Kinwarton, Great Alne, Coughton, Bidford-on-Avon and Studley.

Plastering services

The historic centre

Alcester town centre is a conservation area with a large number of listed buildings. Stratford-on-Avon District Council handles planning and listed building consent. Many of these buildings are timber-framed or solid-walled and were originally lime plastered. They need breathable materials, and modern gypsum can trap moisture. That’s specialist work, and we’ll tell you honestly if a lime specialist would be the better fit.

Flood-prone areas

Parts of Alcester near the Arrow and Alne have flooded in the past. After flooding, wet plaster usually has to come off once the walls have been dried out properly. Re-plastering too early traps moisture. We’ll follow any drying advice your insurer’s specialist gives.

Modern homes

On the newer estates, common jobs are fixing cracks along plasterboard joints and nail pops, repairing damaged walls, and boarding and skimming extensions and garage conversions. If your home is still under a builder’s warranty, check with them first.

Parking and access

Parking in the centre of Alcester is limited, especially on market days. Let us know about access, parking and where we can mix when you get in touch, so the job runs smoothly.

How a job works

  1. WhatsApp photos to 07453 614095 with rough room sizes.
  2. We send a guide price and visit if needed.
  3. We protect floors, stairs and furniture.
  4. We plaster and leave the room swept, with aftercare advice.

Drying and painting

A skim needs a few days to dry, and backing coats longer. Use a mist coat of watered-down contract matt first.

Rendering

We also apply sand and cement, silicone, K-Rend/monocouche and insulated render (EWI) on suitable modern walls. See our Stratford-upon-Avon rendering page, our Redditch rendering page, our K-Rend and monocouche page and rendering in Solihull.

Areas we cover

We cover Alcester, Arrow, Kinwarton, Oversley Green, Great Alne, Coughton, Wixford, Bidford-on-Avon, Studley and the villages in between. Several of these, including Arrow and Coughton, have older cottages and estate buildings that need a careful approach, and some are listed.

Getting the room ready

Clear the room or move furniture to the middle, take down curtains and pictures, and have an electrician loosen sockets and switches.
